New Motorway April 2007 finally saw the opening of the motorway linking Cartagena and Vera. This new toll roads affords much easier and quicker access to Murcia, San Javier airport, Mar Menor and La Manga. The average toll fee for the journey from Vera to Murcia is 11.50 euros.

Macmillan´s New F.A.C.E.
Arboleas celebrates the birth of a new charity thanks to a successful joint initiative between Macmillan fundraisers and the Arboleas Townhall. "Fundraising in Arboleas Caring for Everyone" or F.A.C.E. aims to provide monies and support here in Spain for cancer sufferers and their families. This worthy venture is a positive demonstration of how the local Spanish and the ex pat community can work together for the benefit of all. The next fundraising event is set for Saturday 21 June 2008, 12-6pm and will be a fun day.

New Road Between Junction 547 E15 & Baza
The new road that is currently being constructed to reduce accidents and to divert traffic away from Albox and other villages is well under way. Part of the road north of Albox is now open.

Shopping Made Easier!!
At last, it is no longer necessary to travel all the way to Almeria or Murcia for some serious retail therapy. The new shopping centre on the outskirts of Lorca, which is only 40 minutes drive from Arboleas, has recently been opened. Here you will find the familiar names Zara, C&A, Pull & Bear etc plus an extensive Eroski supermarket.
Even better, we understand that approval for the long awaited Commercial Centre between Garrucha and Vera has finally been granted and will include some leisure activities in addition to the usual high street names.

New Leisure Complex
Keep the younger members
of the family out of mischief! The long awaited new sports complex in Huercal Overa is due to open anyday now. The centrally located facility will feature a full range of indoor sports and leisure activities in addition to the heated indoor pool.

Future Plans for the Area
Along with plans to open yet another golf course (yawn!) there are reports of a much more exciting project for the area. If the proposed scheme goes ahead, a Formula 1 test track will be developed in an area between Albox and Taberno in approximately 2010. Could it be possible; future sightings of Lewis Hamilton and his Pussycat Doll girlfriend wining and dining in the Wok buffet in Albox?!!!

Indoor Soft Play Area Opened on Industrial Estate
An indoor soft play area finally opened in July, providing a relaxed atmospher to six and relax and enjoy a drink and something to eat while the children enjoy them selves. Open from 10am until 8pm, 7 days a week.
